Today I attended a presentation with an organiser of the visual arts organisation, Pavilion. The presentation had focus on the history of the Pavilion organisation and how they help current up and coming artists. Their focus is working with film and photography artists, specifically working with politics and social impacts on the world. The Pavilion acts as a producer of work, they give guidance through commissions and fundraising while also arranging mentoring to help develop the art its practice.
The Pavilion was foundered by 3 fine art students as a feminist photography based organisation in 1983. It was thought to be an activist movement due to the Yorkshire ripper. They where also frustrated that the art world was male dominated and the way women where objectified in galleries.
